Cursillo Cursillo

Welcome

Welcome to the Cursillo website! The purpose of this site is to function as a "community-based" centre for Cursillistas, and as a point-of-information for those interested in Cursillo.

What is Cursillo?

Cursillo is a worldwide lay movement that originated in Mallorca, Spain, in the early 1940s.  While a member of the young men of Catholic Action, Eduardo Bonnin developed a three-day short course in Christian living presenting a method to motivate people to influence their environments in a Christian way. Working with a team of lay people and clergy, he led the first Cursillo weekend in 1944. After some refining, it soon spread to mainland Spain and to other countries.

The first Ottawa Cursillo was held in 1966, the same year Pope Paul VI designated Cursillo a renewal movement of the Church and named St. Paul as patron. The Ottawa English Cursillo community helped start Cursillo in the Ottawa French (1975) and Ottawa Anglican (1981) communities as well as in Cornwall (1974), Nova Scotia (1975) and Labrador (2003)
